Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation Fund for the Association of Finnish Steel and Metal Producers

 

Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation Fund for the Association of Finnish Steel and Metal Producers is the official name of the fund established by the six steel and metal producing companies Outokumpu, Outotec, Rautaruukki, Boliden, Ovako and FNsteel.

 

The fund was founded on 27 February 2009. In the first few years of the fund’s operation, the aim is to grant annually about EUR 300,000. The fund’s capital will total about EUR 3 million. Grants and scholarships will normally be awarded once a year. The very first grants were given out on 30 November 2009.


Lines of activity


The purpose of the fund is to promote university-level research, teaching and the study of technology and business issues concerning the metals production and covering the entire processing chain.

 

To achieve its goal, the work of the fund will include:

 

• support for research work by awarding grants to researchers, research groups and individual postgraduate students in Finland

 

• promotion of international cooperation by awarding grants for qualifications taken and research work conducted at universities and research establishments abroad

 

• support, through travel grants, for participation in international meetings and practical training abroad and for invitations to visiting researchers and speakers

 

• contributions to publishing costs for doctoral theses and textbooks

 

• awarding student scholarships

 

• granting recognition awards for excellence in dissertations and for special merit in aspects of the metals industry.

 

The Board of Directors of the Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation decides on the distribution of grants and scholarships on the basis of the proposals submitted by the Board of the Association of Finnish Steel and Metal Producers.
